A career in real estate can absolutely lead you to the life you dream of, but only if you are willing to work hard and get it.

To succeed in anything, you will need to overcome many challenges on your journey. Before you decide to become an agent, you first need to understand how serious you are about being one.

Why do You Want to be an Agent?

You need to know the real driving reason you want to be an agent. For example, do you have a deep reason, like wanting a better life for you and your family? Or a shallow reason like wanting to buy a bunch of things you don’t need the reason?

If you don’t have a deep reason to be an agent that will drive you, this is not the right career for you.

When you become an agent, you step into a career where your success is directly related to your efforts. To succeed, you must be willing to do whatever it takes. I.e., working evenings and weekends.

Depending on who you talk to, there are many pros and cons to being a real estate agent. Below are a few of the biggest that most agents have.

  • You can earn an unlimited amount of income.

  • You have full control of your schedule, meaning you work when you want to work.

  • Your days are never the same, so you don’t feel like Groundhog Day every day.

  • You get to meet many new people, which can lead to amazing relationships.

  • You get to help people with one of the most important decisions of their lives.

  • You don’t get paid every two weeks and sometimes don’t know when you will be paid next.

  • You have to be available for your clients whenever they need you.

  • You have to work long weekends or late nights often.

  • Clients can decide not to work with you, no matter how good a relationship you have with them.

  • Helping people with a huge decision comes with a lot of pressure since they are trusting you to guide them properly.

Anytime you decide to do something new, you don’t know about it; the beginning is always hard. Being a real estate agent is no different. The beginning of your career, when you are learning and building, is the most difficult. Once you know what you are doing and have built your business, things tend to get easier. You will still face many challenges, but you’ll be a lot better equipped to overcome them.

Contrary to what is shown on TV and social media, there is no standard real estate agent lifestyle. Every agent is different and has their own vision of what a lifestyle should be. But that is one of the best parts of this career! It offers you the opportunity to design the life you want!

Becoming a real estate agent allowed me to create a lifestyle where my wife and I could live comfortably and do what we wanted, without having the limitations most people have!
