The ONE Newsletter | How to Be Memorable and Increase Sales

ONE LESSON

A past client of mine referred me to friend who was looking to sell their home in suburbs. I was not a suburb agent but figured with my experience, knowledge, and skills I would have no issue selling the home. I went through the entire interview process, building a great rapport with the seller, and by the ends thought I had won the listing. Before we wrapped up, the seller asked me how come she had never seen any of my signs before. She then mentioned a few other agents she knew about and how she would see their signs often. Knowing I had never sold in the suburb before, I did my best to try avoid her question by again explaining my strengths and how they would benefit her. A week later she told me she went with another agent. I checked, it was one of the agents she mentioned.

LESSON LEARNED: Consumers remember what they see often.

Human nature is cyclical. It repeats. What worked thousands of years ago, still works today. This is important because throughout history, people remember and follow the people they are most familiar with. When Napoleon wanted to create a heroic image of himself, exaggerating his victories and downplaying any setbacks, he gave the newspapers what he wanted them to write. He knew the more people saw his articles, the more they would be convinced to support him.

The same is true today. The more people see your brand (and have a positive image associated with it), the more people will choose to work with you over other agents in your market. Do everything possible to market your brand as often as you can. The more you do, the more clients you will have.

ONE TIP

Build YOUR brand, NOT your brokerages. If you don’t, people will remember your brokerage, not you, and will use other agents in your company.

ONE QUOTE

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, on how branding:

”Your brand is what people say about you when you're not in the room.”

ONE QUESTION

What parts of your brand can you improve?

Look at your brand and see how can you make it better. Can you simplify it? Market it better? Make it more consistent? The more you avoid complacency the more your brand will grow. Always keep asking, how can you make it better?
