The ONE Newsletter: A Goal Without a Plan is Just a Dream

ONE LESSON
When I entered the real estate industry, I set a few goals for myself. I set goals for the amount of production and sales I wanted to do in my first few years (which I never came close to achieving), how many people I wanted to have in my database, and to win a top producer award.
It took me almost a decade to win a top producer award, and in 2018, I finally achieved my goal, winning an award for both the amount of production plus the number of sales I did. But, as soon as I received the email letting me know I had won, something happened to me. The fire inside for wanting to sell completely went out. I had achieved everything I wanted to on the sales side (I never wanted to build a team or be the #1 agent in the city). As a result, the idea of selling real estate became more and more difficult for me to the point where I do not enjoy it as much anymore.
LESSON LEARNED: Set goals that will pull you to achieve them.
I did not understand how to set goals when I started my career. At the time, winning a top producer award seemed like a huge goal to me since I was starting with nothing. While it served its purpose, it also helped me understand that it did me a disservice because it left me wandering for years, trying to figure out what my passion and goals were. It wasn’t until five years later, in 2023, when I was meditating, that I discovered a goal large enough to pull me to want to achieve it: to transform the real estate industry!
When setting your goals, ensure they are ambitious enough (and align with your passions) to motivate you to achieve them. If you do, every day you will wake up knowing exactly what you're focused on.
ONE TIP
To accomplish anything of significance, you must give up short-term gratification to achieve your long-term vision.
ONE QUOTE
6X NBA Champion and NBA Hall of Famer (the GOAT), Michael Jordan, on goals:
”I’m a firm believer in goal setting. Step by step. I can’t see any other way to accomplish anything.”
ONE QUESTION
What will you give up in the short term to reach your long-term goals?
Most people are not willing to give up things in the short term to achieve their long-term goals. They spend time on things like binge-watching shows, out partying, or on social media instead of focusing on their goals. The choice on how you spend your time is yours. The more you can focus on your goals now, the faster you will achieve them!
