The ONE Newsletter | How to Gain an Advantage Over Everyone Else

ONE LESSON

“What do you know about condos?” The buyers I was interviewing with asked me as we sat inside a Chicago Starbucks. Well…then over the next 10 minutes, I schooled them on what they need to know and look out for when buying a condo in the city of Chicago. I talked about everything from how Home Owners Associations worked, what Special Assessments are, and what they are responsible for when buying a “box in the sky.” When I finished, the buyers looked at each other and said, “We’d love for you to represent us!”

LESSON LEARNED: The more you know, the more valuable you are.

From the beginning of my career, I knew I wanted to sell in the city and not the suburbs. Knowing Chicago has more condos than any other type of property, I made it a priority to learn as much about them as possible. I spent time viewing them in different areas around the city, researching price points on the MLS, going on inspections (for other agents) to learn what inspectors look for, and learning the difference between the different types of buildings. The result was a lot more buyers picking me to represent them versus the other agents I was up against.

👉 People will pay for value; the more valuable you make yourself ➡️ the value you can provide to others ➡️ the more people will want to work with you!

ONE TIP

Designate time each day to educate yourself. The more you know, the easier it will be to find advantages. With a wider range of knowledge, your mind can look in more places to see what it can take advantage of. It’s like a pair of scissors versus a Swiss Army knife. Both can cut things, but only one is also designed to open your adult beverage!

ONE QUOTE

Motivational public speaker and self-development author Brian Tracy, on how knowledge can change your future:

"Those people who develop the ability to continuously acquire new and better forms of knowledge that they can apply to their work and to their lives will be the movers and shakers in our society for the indefinite future."

ONE QUESTION

Are you spending your time gaining knowledge, or are you wasting it on mindless activities?

When you look at your days, do you see yourself using as much time as possible to build a better future, or are you wasting it doing things like binge-watching TV? Either way, at some point in the future, you are going to look back and either be satisfied with the life you built or regret the decisions you made.
