The ONE Newsletter | Your Current Decisions Influence Your Future

ONE LESSON
I met two of my best friends in high school. The three of us came from very similar backgrounds. We all grew up in middle-class homes in the south suburbs of Chicago with families that cared about us. We all played hockey. We liked many of the same things. Our families even all practiced the same religion. From almost every angle, you could say we all were given the same opportunities.
Fast forward to today, and I rarely talk to my fiends anymore. Both ended up getting multiple DUIs, spending time in jail, and are currently single, living at home with their Mothers, working jobs they don't like. Sadly, both are still drinking.
LESSON LEARNED: You are a product of your decisions.
How is it that my friends turned out the way they did, and I am writing this from home in Chicago with a wife and kids, having only seen the inside of jail from a tour I took of one years ago? Well, all had the same opportunities; the main difference is the decisions we made in our past. I know this sounds obvious, but our current reality is directly related to our past, and that is something we always need to keep in mind. If you want a better future, start making better decisions. If you don’t, your future will look eerily similar to your past.
ONE TIP
Weigh every decision and choose the ones that get you where you want to go. You make 35,000 decisions a day. Most are very small and don't require much thought, but others can determine what your future will look like. If you always weigh your decisions, you will remain focused on your goals.
ONE QUOTE
Author and speaker Tony Robbins, on decisions:
“It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.”
ONE QUESTION
What decisions do you regularly make that are hurting your future?
Look at your days, are you choosing to eat unhealthy food that will affect your health in the future? Are you spending time binge-watching TV or doing something instead of working on your future? 10 years will happen fast if you don’t make choices that help you now; you are just hurting your future self. Keep in mind, the past can never be changed, but you can always decide to create your future.
