The ONE Newsletter | How to Use F.E.A.R. to Get What You Want in Life

ONE LESSON
The beginning of my sales career was very challenging. I entered the industry with no knowledge of how to be a real estate agent, had minimal money to my name, and walked in during the depths of the Great Recession. I survived my first few years by helping other agents and doing a few rentals. There were many times when I found myself job hunting online, thinking maybe I had made the wrong decision. I even got as far as uploading an updated resume to a job site. But I never clicked the “submit” button. Instead, I left it as a draft, thinking I’ll try to make it as an agent a little longer, and if it doesn’t work out, I’ll click the button. I never did.
LESSON LEARNED: When you feel F.E.A.R., you are on the right path.
Throughout my career, I have doubted my decision to become an agent many times. Any time things became challenging, my mind would try to convince me I would be better off quitting and going back to the comforts of being an employee. But I knew that doing this would mean I was giving up on my dreams and the life I wanted. So instead, I began using F.E.A.R. as an indication that I am on the right path. This mindset has helped me push through the most challenging times and is one of the main reasons I am in a place to write this to you today. When you look at F.E.A.R. as nothing more than a confirmation of what you are doing, you take the power back and can use it to create the life you want.
ONE TIP
To eliminate F.E.A.R., make decisions quickly and move on. When you are about to decide to do something (smaller decisions, not a large decision that requires more thought), there is a moment that happens, in a split second, where your mind delays so it can examine things. This moment, I call the “blue flash theory,” is what allows your mind the opportunity to show you things to try and prevent you from doing it. It is trying to protect you (one of its main functions), but it also prevents you from achieving what you want in life. If you don’t allow your mind to “blue flash,” you will make more decisions that will benefit your life.
ONE QUOTE
Actor Christian Bale, on fear:
“I tend to think you’re fearless when you recognize why you should be scared of things, but do them anyway.”
ONE QUESTION
What are you fearing right now that is preventing you from achieving what you want?
If there is something you have been wanting to do, what is stopping you from doing it? What is the F.E.A.R.? F.E.A.R. is nothing but manifestations in your mind designed to protect you, but most of them are not real. F.E.A.R. stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. What you are seeing is just a possibility; it is not a guarantee because we have no idea what will happen in the future. Once you realize this and take control of your mind to focus on the alternative positive outcomes, you allow yourself to properly weigh the decision before making it.
