The ONE Newsletter | Cutting Through Daily Noise to be Memorable

Sent by Michael Opyd | 7.23.25

ONE LESSON

One of the best pieces of advice I was ever given at the beginning of my career was to market to my database. Doing this has paid off many times over. It is also one of the biggest regrets I have.

When I created my plan, I decided I would market to my database 28 times a year. Every month, I would send a customized newsletter, a postcard, and each quarter, I would send a market update. While this plan served me well over time, in hindsight, it was also one of the reasons my career took many years to finally take off.

LESSON LEARNED: The more marketing you can do, the better results you will have.

A database is a goldmine. It is the people who know you and want to help you. It is not just a place to add past clients, it’s a place to add everyone you know and then some. But people are busy, and the thought of you doesn’t come up unless you remind them. And remind them often.

Looking back at the beginning of my career, if I were entering the industry right now (or was still selling full-time), I would contact my database no less than 50 times a year.

On average, we receive around 100 notifications and are hit with close to 10,000 advertisements each day. The only way to get through all of this noise is to become a larger part of it.

ONE TIP

Study how to write ads. Learning how to write headlines and copy will help you create more effective marketing campaigns, more engaging social media content, and will add another strength to your business that you can use to convince sellers to choose you. (I also suggest referencing last week’s newsletter to understand why people buy and how to sell to them).

ONE QUOTE

Best-selling author Tom Fishburne on marketing:

”The best marketing doesn’t feel like marketing.”

ONE QUESTION

What else can you commit to doing to market yourself?

Look at what you are currently doing to market yourself, and think about what other methods you can add to increase your business. Maybe it’s starting a newsletter, making calls/texts, or sending postcards. There are many ways to market to your database. Find as many ways as you can and do them consistently. Just make sure you choose ways that you enjoy doing, or you won’t stick with them.

Catch you next week!
